Long update on Memorial Day

I finished reading Bad Twin, the book tie-in to Lost written by the fictional author Gary Troup (an anagram for “Purgatory”) said to have been killed on Flight 815. Some people speculate that Stephen King, a big Lost fan, or Dean Koontz really wrote the book. Having never read a book by either of these authors, I couldn;t say. I found it to be a very suspenseful book, you learn a little more about the Hanso Foundation and the Widmores. The ending was a little hard to follow, but you never really see it coming. As a Lost fan it;s not a necessity to read this book. Even if you play the Lost ARG it still isn;t a necessity to enjoy the game. Just a quick, fun read.

My thoughts on the finale: WOW. Those were the best 2 hours of television I’ve ever seen. We see why the plane crashed (one of my 3 theories was correct!, hahaha) We see what happens when the button isn’t pressed, and we sort of see what happens to Michael and Walt. But the best part occurred in the last 2 minutes of the show, codenamed “the challah” by the writers. There is a window and it’s snowing really heavily outside, like a blizzard, and it seems to be taking place in the arctic. There are two men, scientists, playing chess and then their computer starts going crazy because it has detected an electromagnetic anomaly. One of them, who looks almost exactly like Jack, but isn’t played by Matthew Fox, calls Desmond’s love Penelope to say they think they’ve “found it.” Unreal! So Penelope has been looking for Desmond, who’s been trapped in a “snowglobe.” Penelope was a character in The Odyssey.  She was Odysseus’ wife, and while he was away she had 108 suitors.

Some questions: why cast someone who looks exactly like Matthew Fox to play one of the 3 people we see in current time away from the island?  JJ Abrams has messed with clones/twins on Alias, and now with the book Bad Twin, it just seems too obvious. I really hope twins don’t come into play on the show. Also, the huge statue with 4 toes? WTF? I guess that’s supposed to show that the island has been there a really long time, way before Dharma/Hanso set foot on it. Desmond and Penelope’s story is great, and I’m glad Desmond will be back next year.

Aside from the Lost news, I got a job. I’ll start next week in an IT position and I’m excited!

Today I tried out Microsoft Office Professional 2007 Public Beta 2. It was pretty different, but I love the new format. It’s easier to use, will be easier for new users, and it’s a great step for Office. I uninstalled it though because the one program they force you to use is Outlook 2007 and that wasn’t stable enough for me. Here’s a screenshot of Word2007.

I haven’t been writing much in this because I found the paper journal I used to keep about 6 years ago and I’ve been writing in that every day. It’s awesome! I had so much fun reading the entries I wrote between middle and high school.
