What’s the deal with dry cleaners?

6a00d8341c630a53ef00e55223ba778833-800wi

I have one black suit. I wore it on job interviews and I wear it to weddings. I had it dry cleaned around Christmastime last year after my friends Brad and Allison’s wedding. I tried wearing it for the first time since then this past Saturday for Lauren and Ben’s wedding. The first thing I noticed was that my pants had two hooks before, and now it only had one hook and a button. Then I realized that they were extremely tight around the waist and a thinner fabric than before. So in short, they gave me the wrong pants, a crappier version that was the same fabric as my suit jacket. So I had to scramble around that day and luckily I had some other black pants that I could pull off with the suit jacket. The fabric didn’t match but you had to really look to see it. The guy at the dry cleaners was no help on Saturday when I called up and told me to call back Monday when the owner was in.

Just got back from talking to the owner. First of all, how do dry cleaners still function? I still had the number for the suit and gave it to the guy. He proceeded to pull out about 8 Wal-Mart shopping bags full of receipts and began to look through them. There wasn’t a single computer in the place. I’m sensing a business opportunity. While he was rummaging around through his receipt shopping bags I began to look around the place and saw signs that said CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE YOU LEAVE. And NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR BELTS, BUTTONS, BUCKLES, etc. What are you responsible for then? I began to realize that I had no leverage against them after seeing these signs. I did look at the suit two months ago when I received it and it was indeed a black suit and white shirt just like I brought in. Am I supposed to try it on in the store?

In short, after he finally found my receipt he said that he had over “14 years experience in dry cleaning” and since I “only had 2 piece suit” that he didn’t make a mistake. “if it was 50 pieces, maybe.” I then asked if he was going to do anything to rectify the situation and he said no. I got pretty furious and told him that I’d never be coming back and I’d tell all my friends to do the same. He said, “that’s okay.” Ok, so guys, never go to Plaza Cleaners at 1815 Highway 138 SE # 100 Conyers, GA. Also, never call them up at (770) 922-0078 with random questions about life or sign them up for any telemarketing lists.

Oh well, off to buy another suit I guess. Then I get to wear it a couple times and take it to another dry cleaners.

So far I’ve been lucky and not fallen victim this type of issue. Does always make me wonder though.

I just try to laugh it off and think about the Seinfeld episodes on dry cleaners.

Wow. A bit delayed, but I just had to say I’m sorry about your pants!! Joe has had some ruined shirts before but never anything this bad!

Makes you think about that guy that sued the dry cleaner for some excessive (millions?) amount over a pair pants. Seemed nuts, but I’d be tempted after reading your story! ha

Plaza Cleaners you are officially shunnnned!
